Overview
Oakdale Cheese & Specialties has been making hand crafted Gouda cheese in the Holland tradition for generations! On Mondays and Tuesdays, Oakdale Cheese starts the 11 week process of making Gouda. Come visit and enjoy various flavors of national award winning cheeses, savor a delicious grilled cheese sandwich, browse the gift shop and stroll through the beautiful grounds. Young and old alike delight in feeding the farm animals and relaxing on the shaded lawn and picnic tables.
Oakdale Cheese & Specialties also offers tours. Come by and learn more about the process and the people. Oakdale Cheese happily welcomes visitors to enjoy a complimentary self-guided tour of the facility. For groups larger than 10, please call 209-848-3139 at least three days in advance to make arrangements for a hosted tour. For groups larger than 10 people enjoying lunch at Oakdale Cheese, in addition to the grilled cheese, special order lunches are available. Order must be placed 48 hours in advance. We’ve been traveling to Modesto and decided to stop by and see what’s up with this place. Oh boy! We left loaded with cheeses - primarily Gouda - that were so good indeed! Would definitely recommend to any cheese lover, and I shall note that prices are very reasonable. Additionally, it was fun to see farm animals roaming around. They looked very well kept and healthy.
Such a lovely store and place to bring your children (or yourself). They literally make the Gouda cheese on site and have educational videos on the process. You've got to try their grilled cheese sandwiches, cheesecake, cheesecake brownies, and other tasty treats. All types of specialty items for chartruterie boards can be found, too. Outside, a beautiful landscaped, park-like setting with Koi ponds and a petting zoo. They sell the fish and livestock pellets in the store. Enjoy your grilled cheese outside.
The staff was super helpful. There is quite the selection of items here. Many different types of cheeses, but also fresh baked sourdough, cheesecakes, chocolate truffles, and hot foods. The grilled cheese was super melty and pairs well with piping hot tomato soup. Also, outside are friendly cats who will keep you company while you wait for your food.
It's 2025, where else can you get a grilled Gouda on sourdough sandwich for $4.50? Also, tomato soup was REALLY GOOD. All prices very reasonable. The Welcome Cat will greet you and show you around. Outdoor tables. Koi pond. Chickens, goats, and other animals to see.
A very fun place to stop on a road trip. They have great cheese! They also sell grilled cheese and tomato soup for lunch which is amazing. They have some goats that kids can feed and just watch. We’ve stopped here several times on road trips to get lunch and let the kids run around for awhile.
